Okay, I need to set a realistic expectation here. If you are looking for something to taste exactly or even close to your favorite malt, this is not the product for you.
This product is not whiskey, but it does offer a good, deep, complex sipping experience.
The nose is a lot of sweet orange, with a lovely nuttiness that reminds me a bit of a baking pecan pie, when I lived in the states. This gives way to an almost overpowering wood smell that some might say is like varnish. Straight out of the bottle this is a bit overpowering and hard to get around, but if you add water, that really opens it up into something, I found to be quite interesting and lovely.
With water I get more spice on the nose, like clove and ginger. Also after adding a bit of water I get more of a malt sugar/toffee hit towards the end.
On the palate, I again get sweet orange, toffee, spice, barley sugar and a nice drying smack of oak. Only thing it is missing is a bit of heat, to help keep the palate transforming into the finish.
I fixed this by adding a little Strykk alcohol free vodka on my next tasting in place of water. This helped to lengthen the finish and turn this into a nice sipper.
Again if you are looking for a one to one replacement, this nor any product will hit the mark. If you are open to adjusting your taste a bit and allowing yourself to become familiar with this, it 100% recreates the ritual and allows you to again relax and enjoy a wee dram.
